National scholarship program recognizes scholarship, leadership and talent in high school girls
Mobile, Ala. (December 9, 2011) - On November 27, Keyna Hoselton of Fargo, N.D. was named the Distinguished Young Woman of North Dakota and awarded $500 in cash scholarships during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls held at Davies High School in Fargo, N.D.
Participants were evaluated in the categories of Scholastics (20%), Interview (25%), Fitness (15%), Self-Expression (15%) and Talent (25%).
Throughout the next year, Hoselton will represent North Dakota at various public events and serve as a role model to young people by spreading the program’s national outreach message of “Be Your Best Self.”
Hoselton is the daughter of Scott and Cindy Hoselton and is a senior at Shanley High School. Hoselton’s achievements include: National Merit Letter of Commendation; National Honor Society; Varsity Academic Letter; American Math Competition - School High Score; Fargo Rotary Student Guest Program; Dance Olympus Senior High Score; Varsity Music Letter; Varsity Drama Letter; Concert Chorale Outstanding Soprano; Concert Chorale Outstanding Soloist. In addition, Hoselton’s activities include: Concert Band President & Section Leader; Concert Chorale Section Leader & Accompanist; Trollwood Choreography Student Leader; Camria Ballet Academy Student Assistant; Teens for Life; Shanley Musical Dance Captain; Wind Ensemble; and Quintessence.
The 55th National Finals will take place on June 28, 29, and 30, 2012, in Mobile, Alabama. Hoselton will travel to Mobile, Alabama along with 49 other state representatives to participate in personal development activities and community service projects before competing for the opportunity to become the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2012 and for a share of more than $140,000 in cash scholarships. Tennessee’s Katye Brock, who currently attends the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, won the 2011 overall award.
