Statewide scholarship program awarded more than $8,000 in cash scholarships to participants
Mobile, Ala. (December 9, 2011) - On November 25, Stephanie Brady of Newmarket, N.H. was named the Distinguished Young Woman of New Hampshire and awarded $3,600 in cash scholarships during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls held at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H.
Other award recipients included Victoria Grant of Chester (1st Alternate, Interview Award, Scholastics Award, Fitness Award, Self-Expression Award) and Melanie Konstant of Derry (2nd Alternate, Interview Award). Participants were evaluated in the categories of Scholastics (20%), Interview (25%), Fitness (15%), Self-Expression (15%) and Talent (25%).
Throughout the next year, Brady will represent New Hampshire at various public events and serve as a role model to young people by spreading the program’s national outreach message of “Be Your Best Self.”
Brady is the daughter of Karen and John Brady and is a senior at Newmarket High School. Brady’s achievements include: Harvard Book Award; St. Michael's Book Award; All Around Best Junior Girl; Class Vice President-Senior Year; Class Secretary-Freshman, Sophomore & Junior Year; Community Service Award. In addition, Brady’s activities include: Competitive Figure Skater; Junior National and National Honor Society; School Concert Band-Secretary; Math Team; Yearbook; Prom Committee Chair; French Club; Granite State Challenge.
The 55th National Finals will take place on June 28, 29, and 30, 2012, in Mobile, Alabama. Brady will travel to Mobile, Alabama along with 49 other state representatives to participate in personal development activities and community service projects before competing for the opportunity to become the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2012 and for a share of more than $140,000 in cash scholarships. Tennessee’s Katye Brock, who currently attends the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, won the 2011 overall award.
