Distinguished Young Women seeks Development Director

DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION:

Distinguished Young Women is a nonprofit corporation located in the historic district of Mobile, Alabama. It was founded in 1957 in Mobile and each June 50 state winners come to Mobile to participate in the national finals. Distinguished Young Women's mission is to positively impact the lives of young women by promoting and rewarding scholarship, leadership and talent. The program provides college scholarships and opportunities for personal growth and community service.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have a  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, at least five years' experience in fund development, and excellent communication, marketing, and organizational skills. He or she must be computer literate and have a functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Experience with Donor Perfect and Adobe InDesign software is beneficial.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Director will represent the organization externally to foster effective relations with current and potential donors, sponsors, and granting agencies. The Development Director will accurately and effectively communicate the mission of the organization to potential and current donors and sponsors. The Development Director will support the close interaction and teamwork among the AJM Foundation, the Alumnae, outside consultants, staff and the Board of Directors.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, with the assistance of the Board's Development Committee, the Executive Director, and any consultants, the fund development strategies and campaigns for the national office
  • Assist in recruiting and orienting the Board's development leadership
  • Plan, develop, and execute strategies for obtaining private donations, including identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations)
  • Secure funding from foundations and government sources as appropriate
  • Develop, implement, and monitor annual fund campaign targeting alumnae, local businesses and individuals
  • Develop forecasts and evaluation criteria for fund development potential of various activities, donors, and sponsors
  • Develop a comprehensive timeline and plan of action for all fund development activities including fundraising events
  • Plan, develop, and implement solicitation and training materials for the Board's Development Committee and staff
  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan to ensure the best match between the person soliciting for the organization and the potential donor, and retention and recognition programs to meet the varied needs of donors and potential donors
  • Develop and implement strategies for planned giving including prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Director
